Peter Bainbridge
Peter divides his time between landscape gardening, painting and his passion for horse racing . His work is clearly inspired by the calm serenity of the garden and the visiting wildlife and the buzz and Adrenalin of a race meeting. His attention to detail can only be achieved by a true racing enthusiast . If you love horses, you’ll love these, we certainly do!
Ben Goymour
Ben Goymour (born in 1985) spent 20 years in the army serving in 29 Commando regiment as a bombardier, he did many tours in America, Norway, and Afghanistan as a section commander. On leaving the army in 2017, Ben became obsessed with painting, getting up at 4am some mornings to start. His inspiration comes from his passion for nature and adventure, he spends hours studying how the light falls on the landscape to create a sense of mood and a “you just had to be there ” feeling in all his work. We’re delighted to welcome him to our team here at Duffield Art Gallery.
April Young
Celebrated artist April Young creates expressive, figurative sculptures in a variety of materials from clay to foundry bronze. Her work is inspired by movement, the natural world, and her childhood spent in Africa. She is probably best known for her acclaimed carousel horses that have sold all over the world. Each piece is sculpted in bonded bronze , limited edition, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity, and comes in a protective box.
Stephen Hawkins
Gill Hamilton
Born in Lancashire in 1953, Gill went to Burnley Art College and then Ripon College, studying both Art and Education. Early retirement from teaching has allowed Gill to focus on her artwork, and in 2019 she was elected a member of the prestigious Manchester Academy of Fine Art. She has held many successful exhibitions up and down the country. Her paintings aim to contemporise the traditional subject of still life with a modern illustrative quality that captures the everyday moments. Gill works from her studio at home in Cheshire. We are delighted to be exhibiting her work here at Duffield Gallery, I hope you love it as much as we do
Jenny Aitken

James Brereton
James Brereton was born in Derby in 1954, and trained at the Joseph Wright Art School, turning professional in 1979. He is one of the country’s leading marine artists, and is inspired by Montague Dawson and Thomas Somerscales. His work is recorded and illustrated in Archibalds Dictionary of Sea Painters of Europe and America, and he regularly exhibits at the Royal Society of Marine Artists. So we at Duffield Gallery feel privileged to hold a collection of James original oils on canvas pictures in classic, luxurious, handmade frames.
Nick Walker
Manchester born Nick Walker is the newest artist to come on board, he divides his time between here and his second home in Brittany. He paints quickly and boldly in strong vibrant oils to capture the warmth and light. Possibly the happiest and sunniest pictures you’ll ever see.
Ann Kelly
Ann Kelly needs no introduction, one of the country’s leading female artists, her work is easily recognisable by the clever marks she makes with her experienced use of the palette knife and her skilled interpretation of sunlight and dappled light through trees. Her work has sold all over the UK in the Mall gallery London with the Society of Women Artists, and the famous Harbour Gallery in Portscatho to name a few . Come and see for yourself
Eddie Hallam
Eddie Hallam is an active and passionate wildlife conservationist. His bronze sculptures are in high demand both nationally and internationally. We at Duffield gallery feel very privileged to be 1 of only 4 galleries in the UK to have Eddie’s work permanently on display. Each bronze sculpture can take up to six weeks to sculpt, then it is moulded and cast in bronze, using the centuries old technique of “lost wax” casting each bronze is then “patinised” by Eddie to give its individual colour and finish. A patina can never be repeated, so even though the bronzes come in limited edition numbers, every single sculpture is unique.
Cliff Towler
Delighted to welcome acclaimed the Dorset wildlife life artist to our team, exhibiting for the first time in Derbyshire. Cliff says “My work is my life. Everywhere I have been, everything I have seen and everything I have done is reflected in my interpretations of the world in wildlife, animal and bird paintings and portraits” Cliff Towler’s work has been displayed in many galleries over the years. His success secret is simple: do what you love… He loves painting studies of local wildlife. Avocets, oystercatchers, puffins resting on the rocks in Purbeck, or an osprey catching its prey. His detailed, vibrantly coloured and gentle paintings capture the animals in movement.

Richard Whittlestone
Richard is one of the UK most loved and respected wildlife artists. Born in Yorkshire, Richards childhood spent on the family dairy farm had a huge impact on his art. Self taught, he began painting at an early age and sold his first picture at just 13years old. In his teens Richard bred pheasants, quails, ducks and finches. Birds remain his first love and inspiration, watching them and sketching them, observing how they interact with each other. Richard has his own gallery and studio on the iconic Chatsworth Estate at Pilsley. We feel very privileged to host a selection of his work here in Belper. Every one of Richards paintings includes his trademark ‘fly’, can you spot it?

Peter Watson
Peter studied at Derby School of Art, then embarked on a career as a signwriter and screen printer for a major retail company, but has always painted privately for commissions and workshops. He lives near Ashbourne in Derbyshire and works at speed to capture the moment in one session. This creates a freshness and vibrancy to his work. Peter was voted Derbyshire Life’s Landscape Painter of the year in 2016.
John Connolly
John Connolly graduated in 1976 from Derby University and has had a successful career in the arts ever since. Inspired by the sea, moors and woods, John’s work is full of drama and emotion, the observer can experience a feeling of peace, remoteness and sense of place. Painting mostly on location, John divides his time between his home in Bolsover, Derbyshire and Cornwall and the Scilly Isles. He likes to incorporate local materials like sand and dried grass to connect his paintings directly to the landscape depicted. John is also a professional actor and playwright. We love his vivid, energetic painting’s, we know you will too.
Thomas Petit
Thomas Petit is a range of hand blown glass made and created solely by Thomas himself since 1992, working in London, New Zealand and now here in Derbyshire. His designs are influenced by his own photography, surrounding nature, and everyday sights and objects, “sometimes it is the happy accidents that create the best pieces”. Each unique piece depicts the coastal beach and seascapes with alternative skies shaped by the wind. No two pieces are the same. Collection only, local delivery by arrangement, contact the gallery or email me at jill@duffieldartgallery.co.uk
Diego
I was first introduced to Diego on the sunny island of Ibiza, he is a shy “banksy” type of character, but I was immediately drawn to the bold bright energetic vibrancy of his paintings. His work is in private collections all over the island. We persuaded him to spend some time with us in the UK last summer and he was immediately entranced by the local Derbyshire countryside. He wishes to remain private and elusive, he signs his work simply “Diego”, always in red.
